5 Unique Baby Shower Gifts for The Mom-to-Be
Most of us have all grown accustomed to showering the mom and dad-to-be with gifts for the baby. As a soon-to-be mama, though, I can tell you that one of the gifts I wished for the most on my registry was selfishly for me. While all my girlfriends who are moms always tell me to get something for their kid at Christmas instead of themselves, I think it’s important to remember that moms need TLC too, and should also be shown that they’re cared for. (LOL, how narcissistic am I sounding right now?)
If you’re in the market for a baby shower gift to give the mom-to-be (sorry dad’s, this is all about her), here are five (5) that I recommend!
Thinx Postpartum Support Set
While I can’t speak on this quite yet, I can say that I have heard all the moms in my life talk about how dreadful the postpartum underwear they give you at the doctor is. And how wearing diaper-like pads when they come home from the hospital is not the business. I wanted a solution to this because we don’t need to be in pain and uncomfortable after baby gets here, right? That’s when it dawned on me that period panties were the perfect thing! No need for the extra bulk of the pad (Thinx are quite comfy), so you’re protected without feeling like it. Here’s to feeling normal!!!

Frida Mom Labor and Delivery + Postpartum Recovery Kit
This is her. This is the gift that I selfishly wanted to get from my registry. Of course, my best friend telepathically read my mind, because this was her gift to me and I am so excited. For Labor + Delivery it comes with an oh-so-soft nursing gown, grip socks for those cold and slipper hospital floors, and a toiletry case. For post delivery, it comes with disposable briefs, peri bottles (to clean the queen), instant ice maxi pads for pain relief, healing foam, and cooling pad liners.

*I’ve seen these go on sale for $49.99 both on Amazon and on their website, so keep an eye out!
Weekender Bag
This may be very extra, but for some moms-to-be this could make all the difference! Aside from my hard-case luggage, I did not have a duffle, weekend, or overnight bag. Nothing that I could bring some clothes and comfort for an overnight stay in the hospital. I added this to my registry, but I ended up buying it on my own since I was impatient and wanted to pack my hospital bag early.
I like this Convertible Weekender from Beis. It’s a little pricier, but the bottom half can completely zip off and acts almost like a packing cube. We packed our clothing in here so we can zip it off and have easy access to it.

Portable Breast Pump
Disclaimer: THIS IS REALLY SPENDY and may not be for all moms. But, if you have a group of girlfriends/friends or even if you have the means, I think this is such a great gift.
Over the years I have watched moms struggle to use breast pumps that are provided through insurance at little to no cost. My girlfriend’s son was a little over one (1) month old when she had her first day off from mommy duty. We went to a baseball game and she had to bring her pump with her. We stood in the bathroom stall for 10 minutes before she was able to get the pump going, and I had to stand there and hold her pump for her. It was wild.
Shortly thereafter, she came across portable breast pumps, like this one from Elvie and she swears it changed her life. I am all about efficiency and ease, so I added this to my registry just so I would remember to buy it. In the end, the very same girlfriend who recommended it ended up buying it for me with the help of her husband and sister-in-law.

Maternity/Newborn Photos
I don’t think you can go wrong here, unless they’re REALLY camera shy. Chances are, if you are giving this as a baby shower gift, you may miss the window (depending on when the shower is) to gift a maternity shoot, but you could just as easily book a newborn shoot too. While this may seem out of range - pricewise - I promise you, it’s NOT! My PRO TIP - seriously PRO TIP - is to look for an amateur photographer in your area (or somewhere you are willing to drive). Many up and coming photographers have all the talent you need along with reasonable pricing, since they are just starting out and trying to build their portfolios. And, new photographers are popping up ALL. THE. TIME. Our maternity photos (pictured) came with 30-40 edited photos and we had an hour-long session (but even 30 minutes would have been plenty). We paid a whopping $236ish with taxes. Most gifts cost people around $100 all in, so if this is for a really good friend, or again, if you want to go halfsies with someone - mom will absolutely love this unique baby shower gift.
